Happy Halloween 🎃 October Volunteering

My time at the Trinity Community Center

Hi everyone,

October was a hectic month involving countless nights studying. Going to volunteer in between the times that I was studying was definitely the mental and emotional break that I needed. With the difficult content that is expected to be memorized and absorbed, it's easy to take for granted the opportunity to be at such a prestigious school, especially with the added stress to do as best as you can. Volunteering allows me to think outside of my own stresses and "world," where I can think less selfishly and can actively put in time to care and tutor children with a level of attention and care that I wish I received when I was younger. As such, my volunteering at the Trinity Care Center impacted me in a way that I least expected. Alongside the impact on the community that volunteering has, to be able to observe the effect of my volunteering to the community directly, with seeing the children with a smile on their face or helping them understand and gain interest in Spanish, I found another reason to why I dedicate my time and effort to get into medical school. Not only do I want to try my hardest to represent an underserved community, but I want to serve the underserved. With all the blessings I have received in my life, I have an innate feeling to care for another individual like my own family. Volunteering with the children at the Trinity Community Center reminds me of my own principles and core values that I uphold and reminds me of the reason why I chose to be a doctor in the first place!
